As part of our 11+ preparations with Headway Tutors, we run a series of Mock Exam sessions of which one is at the beginning of September and is run at The Twickenham Exchange. These sessions are designed to give the students some additional help with exam preparation and an opportunity to sit some of the 11+ style exams within exam conditions – albeit considerably smaller than the actual exams themselves. The sessions and exams are organised and chosen by our Directors. All sessions will also include a module on taking exams online. Please find below the details:

Saturday
Maths: How to approach a maths paper, where to gain the ‘must have’ marks and how to avoid careless errors
Creative Writing: Including planning, structure and content
Comprehension: Techniques for written and multiple choice papers, tips to differentiate between retrieval, inference and vocabulary questions
Sunday
Exam technique:
• How to avoid silly mistakes
• Making every second count
• What working out to show
• Tackling the toughest of questions
• Expert advice on everything from using diagrams and visual aids through to checking whether answers are sensible
• Handling time pressure: students will be given a specified time to answer questions. This will stimulate the time available in a real exam
• Advice on when to stop attempting a question and move on to the next one
Mock exams: Maths and English papers
What happens next?
The papers will be marked and detailed feedback will be provided to parents and the tutor via email. The feedback will clearly highlight the areas to address before the exams later in the term.
Who will deliver the sessions?
The sessions will be carefully planned by the our Headway Tutors Director, Chris, who has over 10 years experience in the private education space and has worked in two top independent schools in West London. One of our experienced 11+ tutors will run the sessions.
Cost:
Two day workshop – £150
Sunday only – £100 as this will include the detailed exam feedback
