This course has been designed to ensure students:

  • Develop knowledge of ‘Big Ideas’ of the Science Chemistry Specification
  • Diagnose and address pupil misconceptions with these topics
  • Learn exam technique, practice exam questions and receive feedback
  • Identify next steps for revision
Course Outline

Course Outline

Session 1:
During the first session, there will be a focus on Topic 1: Atomic structure & periodic table and Topic 2: Bonding, Structure, and the Properties of Matter. This may include:
-Model of the atomic
-Subatomic Particles
-Electronic Structure
-The periodic table
-Ionic bonding, properties & ionic compounds
-Covalent bonding, properties, molecules & giant structures
-Metallic bonding and properties
– Nanoparticles.

Session 2:
During this session, we will focus on Topic 4: Chemical Changes and Topic 5: Energy Changes. This may include:
-Reactivity of metals
-Electrolysis (Including Required Practical 9 (Combined) and 3 (Chemistry)
-Oxidation & reduction
-Endothermic and Exothermic Reactions

Session 3:
During this session, we will focus on Topic 6: The rate and extent of chemical change. This may include:
-Rate of Reaction
-Factors which affect chemical reactions (included Required Practical 11 (Combined) and 5 (Chemistry)
-Reversible Reactions
-Equilibrium.

Session 4:
During this session, we will focus on Topic 3: Quantitative Chemistry and Topic 7: Organic Chemistry. This may include:
– Conservation of mass
-Balancing equations
-Relative Formula Mass
-Mole calculations
-Amounts of substances in equations
-Crude Oil & hydrocarbons
-Fractional Distillation & Cracking
-Reactions of alkenes & alcohol (Chemistry only)
